Kilts & Fireworks

Working all the time can sometimes make it hard to find time to enjoy the beautiful summer weather we have right now! With all of the amazing events going on throughout the summer I try and find the time to enjoy it all.

A few weekends ago I went to my first highland games; Cambridge Highland Games. It was pretty amazing seeing all of the bagpipers and drummers together in one place. There were so many of them!
I also got to see my first tug of war pull. Bet you didn’t know tug of war was a legit sport and not just something you play with your dog when you’re trying to get your shoe back eh? To be honest, I thought it was going to be fairly boring, I mean how exciting would it be to watch two teams pull against each other? But I actually found it pretty intense and got caught up in it quickly.
It was amazing to watch the teams pull. Sometimes when they first started both teams would pull, but the rope didn’t move to either end. And then all of a sudden one team would move just a little bit and they’d just keep pulling. A lot of the pulls didn’t last very long, 30 or 40 seconds max, and that’s what they were looking for. The less time pulling means more energy saved for the next pull and you’re not as exhausted. It was all very intense. You could see the guys straining on either ends and really dig into the dirt to stand their ground or to keep moving backwards. The team from South East Hope won second place and it was well deserved!
I also got a chance to check out the Mount Forest Fireworks Festival. Apparently this is a huge festival, but I’ve never been before so I was really looking forward to checking it all out. From lumber jacks, to roller derby girls, to dog shows, there was an amazing array of entertainment shows to keep you busy until it got dark enough for the real show: the fireworks. Now I’ve seen some amazing firework displays before, but this far surpasses anything I’ve ever seen! I think I’ll let my photos do the talking now.
