Latest Wedding Trend: Daddy & Daughter First Look

First looks on a wedding day are a growing trend with today’s couples. For some people a first look is a foreign idea and you may not even know what I’m talking about. To help you understand you can read my past blog post all about the first look, here. Though the focus of the wedding day is on the bride and groom, it’s always a good idea to spend some time with your dad too.

The relationship between a dad and his daughter is something special. A first look with a bride and her dad is a great way to recognize and celebrate that relationship as well. The moment a dad sees his daughter all dressed up in her wedding gown can be a very emotional moment and one that you’re likely to treasure forever.  If you have the time in your schedule, a first look with you and your dad is something I’d definitely recommend. It gives you a quite moment alone before the busyness of the day begins.

For me it was an emotional moment but it was also about the sentiment and respect. The day their little girl gets married is a big day for every dad. By spending a little extra time with both my dad and step-dad it was giving them a moment for it all to sink in for them. Their little girl was all grown up and they were about to walk her down the aisle. A moment I’m sure every dad has thought about at some point when their little girl was growing up. Having that emotional moment happen before the ceremony allowed me to be fully present and mindful in the minutes before I walked down the aisle which I really appreciated. With all of the emotions and tears that happen throughout the wedding day it’s nice to not be bombarded by them all at once. Having the separate, meaningful times allowed me to be more in the moment to take everything all in. There was a time to celebrate (and be teary) with my dad, my step-dad, and my now-husband. Each of those moments were really special to me and so I would highly recommend future brides to also consider planning a few minutes in their wedding day timeline so they can enjoy those moments themselves also.
